After the Tsunami, Let’s Build the Japan of Tomorrow

From March 4 to 15, 2014, the Japanese cultural center in Paris is hosting the exhibition “After the Tsunami, Let’s Build the Japan of Tomorrow” which recounts L'OCCITANE’s commitments to reconstructing Tohoku, one of the regions most affected by the earthquake and tsunami of March 11, 2011.

With over 800 employees in Japan, L'OCCITANE has close ties to that country. The L'OCCITANE Fund specifically created after the catastrophe, has raised more than 2 million Euros from employees and stockholders, to help revitalize the area. By dint of hard work and tenacity, the country is today regaining a certain balance.

Three years on, this exhibition takes stock of the tremendous vitality of a community invested in the reconstruction of its territory. Between pictures and testimonials, the exhibition “After the Tsunami, Let’s Build the Japan of Tomorrow" allows you to discover the many entrepreneurial and architectural initiatives supported by L'OCCITANE and the architectural firm SHSH +Scenography Architecture.

By funding Japanese NGOs including Knk and Civic Force, L'OCCITANE made it possible to rebuild the Kamaishi community center in 2012 and the Kesennuma market in 2013. The aim was to recreate a sense of community in the villages and stimulate the local economy by supporting entrepreneurs. The Japan of tomorrow can be seen emerging from these tangible projects.
