Behind the Scenes of the Immortelle Harvest in Corsica

Twelve years ago, the Immortelle flower, this “golden sun” that grows in the Corsican scrubland, charmed L’OCCITANE to such a degree that the Provençale company created the first large-scale organic farming program of the plant in Corsica. This summer it was time to harvest !

What a strange name! The Immortelle owes its name to its incredible longevity, because even once picked the flower never fades. This golden flower, Helichrysum or “golden sun” in Latin, includes almost 500 wild species, but the Corsican variety, emblem of the native scrubland, has been L’OCCITANE’s favorite for 12 years now.

The provençale company, that dedicates an entire cosmetic collection to this golden flower, has also engaged in its farming. In Balagne, a region of Corsica also known as the “garden of Corsica,” L’Occitane created the first ever large-scale farming program of organic Immortelle in 2004. Never until then had this flower been cultivated with success. Today, 50 hectares are covered in “gold” and each year supply 100 tons of the delicately perfumed flower.

It’s in the month of June that the Immortelle flowers, and following its harvesting in summer, the flower water and the essential oil, treasures with anti-aging properties used in L’Occitane products, are extracted. To date, five patents are pending on the Immortelle collection, testifying to the Provençale brand’s innovative research. The Precious Cream and the Divine Cream are the two bestsellers, to try without delay!
