L’OCCITANE committed to Protecting the Environment

Since its creation in 1976, L’OCCITANE has been committed to environmental protection. Combining respect, authenticity and pleasure, here’s a glimpse of our social and environmental responsibility policy.
By Justine Fiordelli

Throughout the life cycle of its products, L'OCCITANE is committed to limiting their impact on the environment. From supply to packaging, and including the production, distribution and recycling of products, all these services are mobilized as part of an approach based upon social and environmental responsibility. The latter in particular has led to the ISO 14001 certification of our headquarter in Geneva, our site in Lagorce and Paris, and of our 68 shops in France in order to reduce their environmental impact. Our factory in Manosque has also embarked on the certification process.

Our environmental policy is also designed to limit the carbon footprint of our activities, for this we have recourse to cleaner transportation (rail, boats, electric vans); more than 70% of our products are transported by boat.

Another concrete achievement: the establishment of 27 sustainable and equitable supply chains representing 467 hectares of crops in Provence, Mediterranean and Burkina Faso. Verbena, Lavender, Immortelle, Shea Butter... The key ingredients of L’OCCITANE products are thus produced according to organic or sustainable agriculture principles, with the concern of preserving biodiversity.

L’OCCITANE goes even further with its thirteen eco-rechargeable products, and in this way economizes between 65% and 90% of plastic compared to the original products. This month in France, we are launching a major operation to encourage our customers to recycle their empty containers: bring three back and get a 10% discount on your next purchase!

Our actions also focus on store design, considered through environmental criteria. Energy efficient lighting, wood from sustainably managed forests, low VOC emission paint, and the use of renewable energy are preferred.

These are concrete actions that work with humility and effectiveness towards protecting the environment.
