Provencal Craftsmanship at the Verrerie de Biot Glass Factory

Established in 1956, the Verrerie de Biot glass factory hasn’t lost its luster. Famous throughout the world, it continues to pay tribute to local craftsmanship.

In Provence, vineyards and olive groves are an integral part of the landscape. It’s for this reason that thousands of years ago, a glass tradition developed in the region. In order to bottle the olive oil and wine, glass blowers settled in the south of France. This tradition disappeared over the centuries, before picking up a new momentum in 1956.

That year, Eloi Monod, a ceramic engineer with a degree from the Sèvres School, set up the Verrerie de Biot glass factory. He revived the technique of bubble glass, turning a flaw into a genuine trademark. Today, a new generation of glass blowers has mastered this technique. The act of sprinkling ash on the molten glass produces small bubbles, which are the hallmark of Biot glassware.

Today, the Lechaczynski family is at the head of this legendary manufacture. While continuing to innovate, it glorifies the work of the glassblowers. At the Verrerie de Biot, each object is unique because each bubble corresponds to a breath. Decanters, candlesticks, vases... Each piece pays tribute to many centuries of typically Provençal tradition and craftsmanship.
