The Regards de Provence Museum: A Landmark Site

Calling all art lovers: the completely refurbished Regards de Provence Museum is currently hosting an exhibition dedicated to the city of Marseille.
By Justine Fiordelli

Founded in 1998, the Regards de Provence Foundation established its museum inside a key site in the history of Marseille, which is none other than the ancient maritime sanitary station, built by architects Champollion, Fernand Pouillon and René Egger in 1948. Open to the public since March 1, 2013, the 2,300m² building, with its “ocean liner” design houses four different exhibition spaces and presents a very promising program to visitors. Ambrogiani, Audibert, Barry, Chabaud, Dufy, Monticelli... The artists showcased in the permanent collection of the Regards de Provence Foundation trace nearly four centuries of art, and have the distinction of having made a mark on the French and especially the Provençal art scenes.

To complement its huge collection, Regards de Provence Museum hosts various temporary exhibitions throughout the year. Until 1 March 2015, discover without delay “Marseille Éternelle,” an exhibition dedicated to the city of Marseille and the perspective of the artists from the nineteenth century to the present, who were able to reside or stay there. Marseille is presented in all its glory through a selection of paintings, watercolors, and photographs.
